Dreamcatcher PSP were very happy to be working with LifewithArt again; they were full of smiles when they arrived at Dunedin House Charity Arts Centre in Stockton on Tees, especially when they saw that one of their favourite tutors, Allan Barnfather, was back at work after his travels!

For the first project, LwA tutor Pui Lee set the group the task of exploring figurative artwork by Russian artist Marc Chagall, a famous painter. She showed them images of his work and explained a bit about his background, techniques and ideas. The group were very excited by the look of his works, which are often described as dreamlike and poetic and couldn’t wait to attempt a painting in a similar style, which would have so many narrative possibilities.

Claire and Marie dived straight in using bold colours, whilst Linda opted for lighter brushwork. Danni was offered a challenging composition with lots of detail so that she could practise her drawing skills.

Brenda, playing to her strengths, enjoyed thoughtfully drawing lots of small characters for her painting; she was also very proud to show off her Valentine’s gift from her boyfriend Mark, a lovely heart necklace with lots of sparkly crystals. Mark proudly announced that Linda and he had already reached their 3 month anniversary! Mark showed good focus and created a painting of himself and Brenda in a passionate embrace after seeing one of Chagall’s pieces of a couple with their arms around each other. Mark also learnt about different perspective viewpoints by trying his hand at drawing using a sideways profile.

Hazel chose a painting by Chagall, with lots of shades of blue for her to interpret, giving her the opportunity to try different colour mixing and paint application techniques.

It is hard to believe that we started working with Dreamcatcher PSP 8 years ago! We fondly remember the 2012 ‘Art is For Everyone’ exhibition, which showcased the incredible artwork produced by Dreamcatcher PSP clients at LifewithArt workshops in our North Shields Charity Art Centre. https://www.facebook.com/pg/LifewithArt/photos/?tab=album&album_id=391704267605326
