I have been looking back at past newsletters and note that in 2015 we ran some 600 workshops around the UK. Can you believe that in the past year we have run over 800 workshops? 41 Tutors are working with us in running these for over 90 different groups!

The exhibitions produced by MyAware, Riding for the Disabled and Teenage Cancer Trust, amongst others, continue to be very well received by members of the public who pop in to view them and are a great way for these charities to highlight their respective operations through visual means. As always, we’ll be supporting the RDA Annual Art Competition and look forward to viewing all the paintings, collages and sculptures that their clients produce.

As mentioned in last year’s report, we funded the development of Circus Starr’s app which helps autistic children prepare for a visit to a circus and cope with queues, noise and flashing lights and allows them tell their own story of their experience of their visit. We are hoping that this can now be adapted for other situations which could cause stress, like catching a train or visiting the dentist.

I’m pleased to confirm that we have now received the consents needed to commence construction of the new art centre for Orchard Vale Trust and hope that this will be completed by mid-summer, allowing them to expand the Arts offer for both their residential and day care clients.

As in the past, we have supported Teenage Cancer Trust’s “Find your Sense of Tumour” conference at Sherwood Forest Centre Parc and have booked in again for this year for the ever popular Jewellery and Art workshops which allows the delegates a chance to take a welcome and therapeutic break from their intensive programme.

So all in all, we go from strength to strength and getting busier and busier so, as ever, my thanks go out to everyone – tutors, co-ordinators, clients and the LwA operations team – for all the hard work and great results which have been achieved over the past year.
